YUWOON LEE

Lee Yuwoon, an artist whose work serves as a profound exploration of the essence of the modern city and the intricacies of human life, utilizes the city's structures as tools for understanding human modes of living and the human condition itself.

Employing Korean(Indian) ink on canvas, Lee captures cityscapes and architectural structures by representing them in a manner that focuses solely on their forms and exteriors. Each delicate line contributes to the layers that constitute a singular form, mirroring the way a structure evolves over time through the development of signs, symbols, shapes, and forms. The stationary canvas becomes a canvas of compressed time, as numerous lines are drawn, reflecting the layers of time within the artwork. Amidst these countless lines, the furrows of compressed time begin to emerge.

Lee Yuwoon has been an active participant in the art community, engaging with platforms such as H-artlab of Hoban Cultural Foundation in 2021 and Gyeonggi Creation Center in 2019. She was invited to residencies like the 'Venice Salon' in Venice, Italy, in 2018 and 2017, and earned recognition as a Public Art New Hero in 2018. Notably, she secured victories in artist contests held by the Ujung Art Center in 2016 and the Eland Cultural Foundation in 2014. Her solo exhibitions, including 'Duplicate' at Ujung Gallery in Seoul (2016) and 'The Great Shell' at Eland Space in Seoul (2014), showcase the depth and acclaim her works have received in delving into the complexity and aesthetic value of the city."
